Weekend Marriage Seminar

Dover and I attended a church marriage seminar this weekend. Here are just a few of the points we found interesting.

1) The 5 (downward) points of a relationship. Romance, Reality, Routine, Resentment, and Regret. His point was that it is a downward spiral if you don't stay in the romance area-doing whatever you did in the beginning to "capture" each other.

2) You can act your way to a feeling quicker than you can feel your way to an action. Do what you know will benefit each other, even if you don't feel like it.

3) Make regular deposits into each other's Love Banks more often than making withdrawals. You can't make withdrawals if you haven't made deposits. (Find out what your spouse considers a deposit and withdrawal.)

4) God alone can meet all of our needs. He never intended for our spouse to meet all of our needs, or else we wouldn't need God. Be realistic.

5) When you said "I Do", you had to say "I Don't" to other things.

6) Leave (your parents) and Cleave (to your spouse)!

We really enjoyed the seminar and it was great to see so many of our friends there to invest in their marriages. We went because we knew it would benefit our marriage. It is always good to re-evaluate where you are and look for things to improve upon. Thanks Cornerstone for this opportunity!
